HomeKillington ActivitiesHiking in Killington, Vermont

While Killington is most renowned for its ample skiing and snowboarding during the winter season, there’s a lot to be said for the gorgeous sights that this mountain town has to offer during the warmer months of the year. There are a plethora of Killington Vermont things to do, learn more about hiking in Killington down below!

Explore the Natural Beauty while Hiking in Killington

Immersed in a stunning natural panorama of jagged mountain peaks jutting into the sky, all encompassed in the charming ambiance of a tranquil small town in Vermont, Killington Peak (nicknamed the Beast of the East) is the second-highest peak in the state of Vermont. It offers visiting hikers an unparalleled opportunity to look out over five states at once, as well as neighboring Canada.

Killington Ski Resort opens to the public for the summer for endless outdoor adventures on mountains with vertical drops of over 3,000 feet and peaks as high as over 4,000 feet. On these mountains, visitors will encounter ten hiking trails that span over the course of fifteen miles, suited for hikers of all skill levels.

Take the K-1 Express Gondola up to the top of the mountain (or simply to your desired trail), which operates from 10:00am until 5:00pm to 7:00pm depending on the season. The gondola has earlier closing hours on Sunday through Thursday during mid-June through early September, daily during early September through early October, and on weekends during mid October. Hiking trails are closed when services such as first aid and rescue are not available.

Pet Friendly

Pet-owners traveling with their four-legged family members will be happy to know that their pets can join in on their hiking adventures—provided that they are on a leash and remain under control at all times. Pets are not allowed in outdoor seating areas, indoor facilities, food venues, on mountain biking trails (so keep a watchful eye out as you make your way down the mountain), or swimming in Snowshed Pond. They are also not allowed on the chair lifts or gondolas.

When you’re planning where to start your day of hiking at Killington Ski Resort, you’ll want to begin at the K-1 Gondola or at Ramshead if you want to hike to Snowdon Mountain. Hiking no doubt is one of the best Killington Vermont things to do, but here are still plenty more!
