A Few Other Area Activities and Attractions
The hike to Thundering Falls is one of many scenic hikes along the Appalachian Trail in the Killington section. A multi-use, out-and-back trail, it’s used year-round by bird watchers as well as hikers, bikers, and joggers. Along the hike, you’ll enjoy the lovey views of the surrounding mountains and green valley before you hit the peak. The falls are spectacular, with 140 feet of water cascading down over the rocks.
Deer Leap Overlook Trail, an archetypal Appalachian Trail hike, climbs up through the forested mountain side. This rocky, picturesque trail is a popular out-and-back trail well worth the climb to Deer Leap Rock for breathtaking views of Pico Peak and the Mendon Valley. As you climb up the rocky trail through the woods, there are plenty of open spots where you can enjoy the view.
If you’re a history buff, The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in nearby Plymouth is a must see. The district includes a visitor’s center, the Coolidge Homestead (Coolidge’s boyhood home), a one-room school house, a general store, the Farmer’s Museum, the Coolidge Farm Shop, and the Plymouth Cheese Factory. Coolidge and his wife Grace are buried nearby in the town cemetery, which is worth a visit too.
