It is time to get ready for another exciting holiday season. Autumn is already almost over, so the winter season will be gearing up right here in Killington. If you have ever needed an incredible vacation destination for the holidays, look no further than our home. Killington offers a variety of holiday events including Christmas celebrations. There are also a variety of winter-based activities that can only be enjoyed at Christmas in Vermont. Take a look at some festive events and activities that you can enjoy for Christmas this year in Killington:

Vermont Holiday Festival

The winter season officially kicks off in Killington with the Vermont Holiday Festival. This annual event will finally be returning to an indoor venue so you can enjoy all of the activities without standing outside in the cold. Guests will marvel at the indoor Christmas Tree Forest that features over 60 decorated Christmas trees. Of special note is that the GetAway Vacations team received a first-place Most Creative prize for our “Gnomesville” themed tree! There will be a screen of Disney’s Prep & Landing perfect for the kids. Additional activities include the cash bar with festive drinks, tree raffle, and a food drive to help local non-profit organizations. Entry starts at $12 per adult but you can get one free entry when you bring a non-perishable food item to the party.

Christmas Tree Lighting in Rutland

Rutland, our nearby neighbor, will be hosting their annual Christmas tree lighting the same weekend as the Vermont Holiday Festival. Catch this festive event taking place in Rutland Downtown Historic District. Santa arrives by firetruck for a unique start to this wonderful event. Free hot cocoa will be handed out to all attendees and the first 200 guests receive free candy canes and holiday light specs. Make sure to stroll around Downtown Rutland after the event to see all of the wonderful holiday decorations that the local businesses put up.

Holiday Skiing

If you are looking to hit the slopes for the holiday season you have come to the right place here in Killington. Our local mountain features some of the best skiing conditions on the entire East Coast. Guests will be able to strap up during their holiday stay as the mountain opens up in late November for the season. Guests will be able to ski or snowboard down the dozens of different trails on the Killington Mountain. If you are new to the sport, you can book an introductory lesson that will teach you all that you need to know. Local shops in town and on the mountain also provide all of the gear you need including boards or skis, helmets, boots, bindings, and more. Killington Mountain Resort is always updating their website to notify potential skiers of the current conditions on the slopes.

Killington Mountain also hosts a variety of unique events around the holiday season that will make for a fun time. The Corenation Rail Jam Tour will be taking place on December 11th where snowboarders can show off their best moves. This event is all about having fun and showing off what you got. Best of all, all proceeds will be donated to Vermont Adaptive to help locals in need. Now that is a great way to snowboard and help the local community!

Beast Mountain Coaster

Whenever you are taking a break from your trips down the slopes you can head over to Snowshed Lodge and try out their Beast Mountain Coaster. This outdoor alpine coaster is the ultimate thrill ride as it has you twisting and turning over its 4,800-foot-long track. Make sure to dress up in your best winter gear as the coaster will be one cold ride. However, this is an all-ages activity so the kids can have a blast too. Don’t miss out on this incredible Killington activity available only at Snowshed Lodge.

Other Snow Based Activities

Since the area is covered in snow, you should take advantage of all the winter fun you can have. Explore the area with a snowmobile tour that will take you out into the woods. Killington Tubing Park is a great place where you can grab an inflated tube and ride down the hills for a fun experience. The multiple lanes that are open make it easy for everyone to ride down at once. Try something new with ski biking that takes you on a cruiser that features skis instead of wheels. There is no shortage of fun when you pick Killington for your holiday travels!

No matter where you choose to celebrate, Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with emotion. This is the time of year where you begin to realize just how much you have to be thankful for, and we don’t judge you for any tears that may be shed! Unfortunately, the stresses that can accompany this wonderful holiday can often push away the gratitude, with resentment and anger moving to the forefront—especially if you are the host of the feast! If you’re tired of all the work and the angst and Aunt Myrtle whining that the canned cranberry sauce is better than the dish you spent hours slaving over, why not make this Thanksgiving different? Plan your escape to one of our GetAway Vacations rental homes in Killington and revel in the peace and wonder of a not so traditional Killington Thanksgiving celebration!

You May Want to Sleep Late

There’s no need to get up early, no preparations for the onslaught of guests, no rush to get the turkey in the oven; this year, Thanksgiving is all about you and your immediate family! So, sleep in a little later than you normally would and enjoy that espresso bread muffin you purchased from Sun Up Bakery yesterday and remember: There’s no calories in vacation food! (Well, that’s the way we look at things!).

Or You May Want to Get Your Feet Moving

Registration for the 7th Annual Killington 5K Turkey Trot begins at 8am in the parking lot of the Pickle Barrel! Featuring live music, an open bar, and the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for some awesome prices, your Turkey Day will be enhanced by all the wonder of the turkey trot!
