Top 6 Killington Snowshoe Tours

1. Classic Killington Tour

The Classic Killington Tour is perfect for all levels of ability and meanders around Killington Golf Course. You may even follow a few trails through the woods, depending on snow conditions and group preference. Enjoy sprawling vistas of Killington Peak as you take on the course’s gradual ascents and descents. This tour is 90 minutes long and is offered on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

2. Top of Snowshed Tour

This intermediate tour explores the winding trails adjacent to the mountain. It includes an invigorating ascent to the top of the Snowshed and a stop at Killington’s Ledgewood Yurt for lunch. Following lunch, snowshoers will enjoy a gradual descent back to the Killington Clubhouse. Two-hour tours are available on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 a.m.

3. Killington Peak Tour

For a challenging, heart-pumping tour of the mountain, sign up for the Killington Peak Tour. You’ll climb over 2,500 feet from the Killington Base Lodge to the Peak Lodge. Once you there, guests can relax at the peak and take the gondola back to base. This four-hour tour is for advanced climbers only and is available mid-week.

4. Ramshead Tour

This tour explores the trails around Ramshead Lodge and beyond. You’ll feel far from the busy ski trails as you trek through the quiet wooded areas adjacent to the mountain. The Ramshead Tour is available at 1 p.m. on weekends.

5. Moonlight in Vermont Tour

Enjoy a spectacular adventure under the stars! The Moonlight in Vermont tour allows guests to explore the snow after the sun has set. Hot chocolate or warm apple cider will be served afterward. These tours are offered at 6 p.m. and are appropriate for advanced beginners/intermediate snowshoers.

Are you seeking a more personalized experienced? Take a private Killington snowshoe tour! Private tours can be tailored to your skills and desires, ranging from gentle hikes to challenging excursions. This 399,151-acre area is the biggest contiguous land mass in the state and is accessible year-round. Spend a Day in the Green Mountain National Forest

Trails

The Green Mountain National Forest is full of hiking opportunities for visitors of all interests and abilities. It contains three nationally designated trails, including parts of the Appalachian Trail, the Long Trail, and the Robert Frost National Recreation Trail. The forest also offers three alpine ski areas, seven Nordic ski areas, and approximately 900 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and bicycling. Be sure to download a trail map before heading out!

Points of Interest

Hapgood Pond Recreation Area: Hapgood Pond was the first land acquired by the Green Mountain National Forest and is a great place to spend the afternoon. It consists of a campground, open day-use areas, picnic spots with tables and grills, a 0.8-mile nature trail, and a beach for swimming. Drinking fountains and restrooms are also located throughout the area.

Robert Frost Interpretive Trail: This unique hiking trail commemorates Robert Frost’s poetry. Several of his poems are mounted along the trail, and blueberries and huckleberries grow in an old field at the far end of the trail. It’s an interesting and easy walk for guests of all ages so be sure to check it out!

Thundering Falls: Thundering Falls is the sixth tallest waterfall in Vermont. It tumbles 140 feet through a steep, narrow cataract and offers great views of the Ottauquechee Valley from the top. The falls are also the site of a historic mill that’s powered by the energy of the falling water. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
