HomeJourneys To KillingtonTop Reasons to Visit Killington in the Summer

Summers in Killington combine beautiful weather with fewer crowds, more outdoor recreation and a jam-packed festival schedule. Here are our top reasons to visit this Killington summer.

To Escape the Winter Crowds

Because Killington is best known as a winter getaway, the summers here are blissfully uncrowded. Yes, you’ll be here during a season packed with festivals and concerts, but many New Englanders will be chilling out on the coast.

For the Perfect Weather When you visit Vermont

If the humid beaches of the Gulf Coast and the dry desert of the southwest aren’t your idea of great summer weather, head to Killington. You’ll ditch the extreme temperatures and still air for clear skies, fresh breezes and temperate weather. Temperatures rise to around 80 degrees and drop to 45 degrees in the summer—not too hot and not too cold, just the way we like it.

To Get Outdoors

Killington offers far more than skiing. The Killington summer features Mountain bike the trails at the ski resort, the 300-acre Pine Hill Park and in the nearby town of Pittsfield. Take an ATV tour of Killington Peak. Kayak and explore caves around Rutland County with Appalachian Trail Adventures. Summer is a great time to golf at Killington Golf Course and Green Mountain Golf Course.

Vermont also is considered one of New England’s finest fly-fishing states. Near Giffords State Park, Kent Pond has largemouth bass and pumpkinseed sunfish, and you can catch trout there in the spring. Nearby Colton Pond offers largemouth bass, yellow perch, and early season brook trout fishing. Visit the Vermont Fish and Wildlife’s website for more information.

For the Festivals

For its small size, Killington packs an entertainment punch. At Killington Ski Resort, there’s music every night of the week, and things just get better come summer. In addition to the concerts, you’ll find tons of festivals and sporting events when you visit Vermont. There’s the Vermont Bike & Brew, the Killington Wine Festival and the Long Trail Century Ride among others. Check out the Killington Ski Resort’s events page to stay up to date.
