Talk a Walk
One of the best ways to explore Killington is on two feet—or four. Check out trails in the 285-acre Gifford Woods State Park. You’ll be surrounded by sugar maple, beech, yellow birch, white ash and hemlock trees, and a colorful display of native wildflowers on these Vermont dog friendly trails. The park is one of the few old-growth hardwood tree stands remaining in Vermont. For easier hikes, check out the 1.9-mile Deer Leap Trail in the park and the 0.4-mile Thundering Brook Falls. For more of a challenge, we like the 5.2-mile Sherburne Pass Trail to Pico Peak.
What better way to enjoy a meal than outside on the patio with a beer in one hand and your dog at your side? In Killington, there are several restaurants where you can do just that! Check out the Lookout Tavern, Killington’s Deli and Marketplace, and Charity’s 1887 Saloon in Killington, and Long Tail Brewing in nearby Bridgewater.
We recognize that your pet has needs, too, like having access to vet care and sitter services. If you want to hit the slopes for a day or go out for a nice dinner and can’t bring your pet along, Rover is a great way to find sitters and dog walkers. There are multiple vets in the area, so you can rest assured your pet will be taken care of in an emergency. Options include the Rutland Vet Clinic, Eastwood Animal Clinic, and Center Rutland Animal Hospital.
