Sherburne Pass Trail

Killington, Vermont is the ideal vacation destination year-round. The quaint mountain town is known for its natural beauty which provides endless activities for your whole family. From hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, and swimming in the summer to skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing during the winter there is fun for everyone. One great trail to hike is the Sherburne Pass Trail.

Hike to Pico Point

The Sherburne Pass Trail loop takes you to the ski patrol station near Pico Point. You can continue with the loop or if you want better views, climb the short but steep trail to the summit of Pico Point.

The Sherburne Pass Loop is 9.1 miles in length and it is a fairly difficult hike. The whole trip can take up to 9 hours, so make sure to pack plenty of water, food, and layers as the weather can change drastically.

While the hike takes all day, the trailhead is only a 10-minute drive outside of town and there is an area for parking. The trail begins at the parking lot and begins to gradually climb uphill where you will pass through open grass fields. During the spring and early summer, these fields are full of beautiful wildflowers.

After about 1.5 miles the hike begins to switchback up the mountain. At this point, the terrain changes and you are hiking through densely forested areas with large moss-covered trees. The shade under the trees can get chilly no matter what time of year, so make sure to pack several layers in your backpack.

After another 2.5 miles, you will reach the Pico Shelter. At this point, you can continue on the Sherburne Pass Loop trail to the south or hike up to Pico Point to the west.
