Lake Saint Catherine Park
At over 100 acres, Lake Saint Catherine Park has been a destination for vacationers looking for a quieter, mountain lake experience with plenty of outdoor fun since the early 1950s. Pack a picnic lunch and head to the lake for a great day trip for the family. Have fun doing your own thing or take part in one of the parks hands-on activities like the Catamount Crawl. Just one of many educational but fun programs that the park offers, the fun Catamount Crawl tests your knowledge of the area’s catamounts (known as mountain lions or cougars by most of us). Learn about their history and touch an old cougar skull, skin, and even scat if you dare.
The park offers plenty of scenic picnicking spots with views of the lake, and the two lakefront beaches provide plenty of space for lazing the day away while watching the kids swim and play in the cool, refreshing lake. There’s a large, grassy field nearby that’s perfect for a game of Frisbee or tag football. A concession stand, restrooms, and a children’s playground are just a few more amenities in the park.
There’s a boat launch so you can get out on the water to do a little water skiing or fishing. If you don’t have access to a boat or kayak, rentals are available at the concessions area, as is bait and basic gear. Speaking of fishing, there’s good fishing to be had here for anglers of any experience level. The very northern and southern ends of the lake are shallower, with rock piles and outcroppings, boat docks and vegetation providing great locations for pike, perch, and bass. The main area of the lake has deeper, colder water with rainbow trout, brown trout, and smelt. If you like the cold, you can even try your hand at ice fishing.
Mountain bikers and hikers can take a short trail through meadows and the ancient forest (known as the Big Trees of Lake Saint Catherine) that surrounds the lake, and enjoy picturesque views of the lake and Birdseye Mountain along the way. These easy trails are just over a mile long and are pet-friendly. Depending on the season, you’ll enjoy fields of colorful wildflowers or the autumn colors of the forest. There are a few old growth northern red oaks that are absolutely huge!
Enjoy plenty of opportunities for bird and wildlife watching as you hike or sunbathe on the beach, with beavers, raccoons, white tail deer, skunks and black bears wandering around. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll spot an elusive moose or that catamount.

Fully equipped kitchens come with microwaves and all-important coffee makers. Snuggle up at night after a long day of skiing or kayaking in front of the indoor fireplace or outdoor fire pit. You can also choose a vacation rental with a private hot tub to really soothe those tired muscles.
