K1 Overflow Lot to Killington Peak is a 6.2-mile loop that takes you to the top of Killington Mountain. The hike is moderately difficult and includes a combination of forest trails, service roads, and stairs, making this one of the best hiking trails in Killington VT. During the winter, the area is used as part of the Killington Ski Resort, so you will pass ski runs and see a few parking lots and ski lifts along your way.
Killington Peak, known as “The Beast of the East,” is the second highest peak in the state. Once you reach the top of the mountain there are stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountain range and of five surrounding states and Canada. The peak also has views of the Adirondack Mountains. Killington Peak is part of the Green Mountain Range, which spans from Massachusetts to the Canadian border. Part of the Appalachian Trail runs along the summit of Killington.
The time of year to hike this trail is from May – October. You are allowed to bring a dog on the trail, but they have to be on their leash. The trail also has sections that are part of mountain biking trails. The trailhead is off of Vale Road by Potter Brothers Ski Shop.
